A lifetime of caring - a moment of change

Our Story

Parents and students know that the IB is big and that it can feel overwhelming. Faced with a child who is running hard just to stay still, tuition often seems like the best way to offer support and a good way to show them that you care. Trust your instincts - this should be a great way to help your child navigate the IB with less effort, more success and no tears. The trick is to find a tutor you can trust.

Many of the agencies offering tuition will loudly proclaim that they can offer 'recent IB graduates' as tutors. The pitch is that these young people are effective tutors because they 'know how to perform' well because they have done so themselves. Of course, we all know that the real reason is that these tutors are actually university students who are willing to work for very low rates of pay.

The problem is that these tutors have very limited experience of the IB. One curriculum, one exam, no teaching experience. In most cases they are unaware that IB content, internal assessments, exams and rubrics change. A lot. In the best case scenario, they know what works for them but would you be happy if your child's school employed a teacher who only knew what might work for one student in the class? Neither would we.

This means that student mentors are often providing guidance based on what worked for them several years ago rather than what you need to do now. This is not their fault, but it is a problem. All IB teachers know when students are being advised by someone with a very high IB score who is insisting that 'the teacher is wrong' and that they know what you should do. Sadly, this story does not have a happy ending for students working with tutors like this and after years of watching this disaster unfold, we decided to offer something better. If you need tuition, you need a tutor you can trust.
